Back to work.
Vacation’s over. If you read my earlier post, you know I’m getting ahead on my assignments so I can spend most of the summer doing fun and educational things with my daughter. The only catch is that first I actually need to complete those assignments.
We’re trying something new today. My soon-to-be 2nd grader and I sat down with pencil and paper this morning and made a list of things she can do today so we can avoid some of the incessant “hey moms” that inevitably come just when I had a brilliant point to write in one of my projects.
We’ll see how it works out. The potential snags I can see are that she’ll either need help with some aspect of an activity or that she’ll power through the list by noon.
She’s very efficient that way.
Hey, maybe I should give her some of my assignments.

It’s so hard entertaining kids while we try to work. I’m luck that my son is older (9) and can entertain himself for the most part. I’m amazed at how much a very independent, know it all 9 year old can suddenly need my help when he’s not in school. Kind of funny how he wants my help when I’m working but not when I offer it any other time - hmmm go figure. Kids!
It sounds like you have a good plan for the summer and I hope you get your projects done quickly so you can start you summer ‘break’.

We used to do “school work” type projects over the summer. Nothing overly complicated, but stuff to keep the kids in practice. Maybe while you’re working, that can be study time — a math workbook, practice reading or writing, whatever.

The list seems to be working! It’s only been two days, but they’ve been a productive two days, and my daughter is so happy with her new independence.
@Sue - doing school work is a great idea, and she’s been doing some of that already. But I’ll get more involved and make it extra fun (we hope) in a week or two.
