He Brews: Honkin Espresso Machine

I should probably post something about the mac-daddy espresso machine we have sitting on our my kitchen counter. It takes up so much space in real life I feel obligated to give it a little virtual space.

It’s hard to be annoyed with it for too long though, even if it is bulky and not-so-attractive. The thing makes me espressos or lattes whenever I want them, and not the way some wimpy little model from Bed, Bath and Beyond would do it.

If you ask my husband, he’ll tell you all about the bars of pressure and maybe throw in a few references to a pump. (I think it has a pump.) I like the fact that it makes his $300 coffee grinder seem like a good investment. (Oh, don’t give me that shocked look. We all pitched in for his birthday one year and FINALLY gave him something he really liked.)

And speaking of investments, guess how much money we sunk into this restaurant-grade piece of machinery? $24.99. He bought it, used and unloved, from a restaurant supply company.

That’s the only reason I didn’t kill him when he brought this home:

It also has a heated cup-warmer on the top and a hot water spigot, although I usually forget that and heat water for tea the old-fashioned way, in the microwave.

They make $300 grinders? I’m not shocked that you own one. I’m just shocked that someone thought them up and can actually sell them. Please, don’t tell my husband. He’ll want one, too.

$300 grinders? I would have LOVED to get one for that price. Mine cost $800!

I also have a machine in my kitchen, although not on my counter. It has it’s own bar in the corner and I absolutely love it. I cannot get coffee at the store now, for I have become a Coffee Snob!

Anyway, I’m glad to see that you put up with the machine…that’s the sort of thing marriages are made of!

That makes me smile, Joseph. I agree one hundred percent. Or we could put it another way: strong marriages are enhanced by strong coffee (especially when the husband brings it to his wife every morning). ;)

p.s. I like your site. So, you turned your hobby into a business?
