What photography has to do with freelance writing.
For my friends who are clacking away at their keyboards while I’m over here clicking away with my camera, I want to clarify what I’m doing and why I’m doing it.
Have you ever taken a photo that was really, really great but you have no idea how you did it? That’s me. I have some wonderful photos - just enough of them that I drool over the thought of doing that deliberately.
I’m still taking the summer “off” to spend most of it with my daughter. Still keeping up with my network online. Still thinking of editorial calendars, pitches and per-word rates. Still planning on updating my online portfolio and watching for my clips to show up in print and on the web. Still getting paychecks, even. (How neat is that?)
In other words, I haven’t left the fold.
But while I have the time, I’m spending it practicing with my camera. I want to learn enough that I don’t sweat and stammer and faint if an editor asks me to provide photos.
If you have the time and you need to brush up on photography, join me!

I certainly understand the link between writing and photography. I’m working hard at taking better pictures and can see a bit of an improvement over the past year. Still need to learn more.
I was going to wait until September to get into the online lessons, but maybe I’ll join you on this journey since I take photos every day for my blog…

Your photos are what inspired me to improve mine, Charmian. But if you want to join me, by all means!
